On 21 April, the Institute of North Caucasus opened a wall outside the Russian Embassy in Kyiv in memory of fallen freedom fighters of occupied Caucasus who have been killed by Russian aggression.
On the wall of memory, Chechens, Dagestani, Crimean Tatars and Ukrainian activists placed photos of some of the fallen freedom fighters of the North Caucasus that they knew. On the memorial banner hanging across the fence above the photos it reads, "Caucasian Heroes Killed by Russian Occupants."
During the event Sheikh Said Ismagilov, Mufti of the spiritual administration of Muslims in Ukraine, read a traditional Muslim prayer dedicated to the souls of the dead. People who attended laid flowers under the photos of Caucasian freedom fighters and heroes at the bottom of the wall.
The event was also attended by speakers and representatives of the social political movement "For a Free Caucasus" Adam Osmaev, Commander of the International Peacekeeping Battalion of Dzhokhar Dudayev in Ukraine and his wife Amina Okueva.
"Today is the anniversary of the death of the first president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dzhokhar Dudayev. He died on April 21, 1996. The war in the Caucasus has not stopped ... For new people, the younger generation die there only because they want to live on their land. We have been fighting for freedom in the Caucasus for more than 20 years, and today in Ukraine for the past 2 years now, the burden of war lies with the best sons of Ukraine" - Adam Osmaev, commander of the International Peacekeeping Battalion named after Dzhokhar Dudayev, stated in his opening remarks.
According to the press officer of the regiment "Kyiv", Amina Okueva, in the Northern Caucasus a struggle in the face of a fierce Russian occupation continues.
"The cruel methods of a Russian hybrid war have not changed. We believe that within the struggle here we make a contribution to the struggle of our people against Russian imperialism" - Okueva said in an interview.
In his opening statements at the wall of memory dedicated to the Caucasian freedom fighters, Euromaidan activist and people's parliamentary Deputy Representative of the Union of Ukraine, Volodymyr Parasyuk, thanked the members of the Dzhokhar Dudayev Battalion, with whom he had met while fighting in the East of Ukraine.
